Karin Eckersley, Teacher

Karin is a native San Franciscan who grew up during her formative preschool years right here in Potrero Hill. She started working with children as a babysitter in her teens, and has since worked with many families within the city for over a decade. In early 2013, she made the shift to work full-time professionally with children. She enrolled in Merritt college and completed several early childhood development units, and began working as an assistant in a small home-based preschool in Bernal Heights. It was during those two years at her first school that her calling in life was confirmed: to teach and nurture young children.  She was eventually promoted to co-teacher which allowed her the opportunity to plan curriculum and lead many activities and events.

Karin then spent two years living on the beautiful Mendocino Coast where she worked as an enrichment instructor for preschoolers at the local community center, and teaching at the town’s revered non-profit preschool. This was a wonderful way to expand her experience to include working at a larger, center-based school.

Karin’s approach with children is backboned by kindness, respect, and open communication. She takes great pride in acknowledging and nurturing the whole child. She believes children learn best when they feel safe and confident to explore, ponder and be fully and unabashedly themselves. Teachers play such an important role in aiding children’s sense of self and wonderment and by assisting them in navigating all of these new and exciting relationships with friends and teachers.
